Lucid All Access - Session 01

Our very first Lucid All Access will focus on Front of House audio training — with sessions for both beginners and advanced engineers.

We’re excited to feature Maverick Medina, the main FOH audio engineer at Flatirons Church.

Maverick will share practical insights from mixing worship at a high level, covering everything from foundational skills for clear, balanced sound to advanced techniques for creating a polished, powerful mix.

Whether you’re brand new to the sound board or you’ve been mixing for years, you’ll leave with tools you can use the very next Sunday.

And in true Gathering fashion, there will be good food, plenty of time to connect, and the start of a growing community of church techs across Denver.

Session 1 - Basic FOH Mixing

In this session, we’ll walk through the core building blocks of mixing: how to set input gain, use EQ to clean up mud and harshness, apply compression to keep vocals steady, and use gates to control extra noise. Volunteers will also learn a step-by-step flow they can follow each week to build a clear, reliable mix on any console.

Session 2 - Advanced FOH Mixing

This session builds on the basics and dives into pro techniques that make mixes polished and powerful. We’ll cover using Waves plug-ins effectively, setting up group and bus compression for vocals, instruments, and drums, and applying master bus compression to glue the mix together. You’ll also see how parallel compression, de-essers, and advanced EQ choices bring clarity and consistency, along with practical tips for organizing buses and snapshots so your workflow is fast and repeatable.
